چکیده

Extended thermal annealing treatments were used to modify the B-site cation order in the (1-x)PMN (x)PSN perovskite system. Extensive 1:1 ordering could be induced in compositions with x ≥ 0.1. The substitution of PSN into PMN produces a large increase in the thermal stability of the 1:1 ordered phase, with the maximum disordering temperature of ~1360°C being observed for x = 0.5. The order-disorder transition temperature for pure PMN was calculated to be 913°C. The changes in stability could be rationalized using the random site model for the cation order. The well ordered, large chemical domain ceramics exhibit relaxor behavior up to x ~ 0.6, for higher values normal ferroelectric behavior was observed. Alterations in the size of the chemical domain size had no significant effect on the properties of the lower x compositions, but induced a transition to relaxor behavior for x > ~ 0.6.

Influence of Cation Order on the Dielectric Properties of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Sc1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PMN-PSN) Relaxor Ferroelectrics

The effect of the B-site cation chemistry and ordering on the dielectric properties of solid solutions in the (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Sc1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PMN-PSN) perovskite system was examined in samples with 0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.9. Thermal annealing treatments were effective in inducing long-range B-site order in the samples within this compositional range. The well-ordered, large chemical domain ceramics...

Effects of ac-field amplitude on the dielectric susceptibility of relaxors

The thermally activated flips of the local spontaneous polarization in relaxors were simulated to investigate the effects of the applied-ac-field amplitude on the dielectric susceptibility. It was observed that the susceptibility increases with increasing the amplitude at low temperatures. At high temperatures, the susceptibility experiences a plateau and then drops. The maximum in the temperat...

A model of cation ordering in A(B’xB”1−x)O3 relaxors

We have shown that the lattice-gas model with four repulsive pair interaction constants (corresponding to the four nearest coordination shells) on a simple cubic lattice is a sufficient model to describe the main types of cation ordering in relaxors. The phase diagram, obtained by the cluster variation method, shows the sequences of transitions between the phases 1 : 2 → 1 : 1 → disordered and ...

Pii: S0022-3697(99)00275-9

High temperature thermal treatments were used to modify the cation order in several tantalate and niobate members of the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN) family of relaxors. The observation of complete 1:1 structural order in several compositions, and the refined cation occupancies of well-ordered samples conflict with the predictions of the “space charge” model, and support the “random site” description...

Basic study of relaxors: Materials for high technological devices

Ferroelectric relaxors belong to a subgroup of ferroelectric materials. Relaxors are characterised by unique dielectric, polarization, electromechanical and electro-optical properties. These extraordinary properties make them suitable for high technological electronic devices such as sensors, actuators, electro or elasto-optic and photorefractive elements. Understanding the origin of these prop...
